Artivism 2007

This fall marked the return of one of our most popular and innovative events Artivism: Engaging a Greener Generation, which was held at its new home, the McGuffey Arts Center.

This year's event was juried by John Ravenal, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The three week show began on Friday November 2nd with a gala kick-off featured during McGuffey's "First Friday." The juried, mixed-media show, displayed the work of 37 Virginia artists who were chosen for their unique power to communicate the importance of green building and preservation of our natural world. Each artist in the show donated 50 percent of the proceeds from their unique work to support the greenest school in America project.

The exhibit, presented by the Charlottesville Waldorf Foundation, is a comprehensive array of artistic talents and disciplines including paintings, sculptures, photographs, hand-blown glass, installations and more.

This year's sponsor, Whole Foods Market, donated many platters from their catering program for both the opening gala and Jurors talk and reception with John Ravenal. We deeply appreciate the support of the artist who participated; the McGuffy staff and the Whole Foods Market team for making this years Artivism exhibit an inspiring event for environmental change.
