Why go green?

Green, or sustainable, building is highlighted by an emphasis on efficient use of resources and reduced impact on the environment. While the initial costs involved in green projects may outweigh those employed in more traditional methods, there are also enormous savings involved. However, there is no way to measure the most important part of this equation. "Going Green" represents the ultimate long-term investment. in our world, our health and the health and well being of generations to follow.

Elements of green building include:

Siting - Protecting the landscape's natural ecology and to ensure easy access via mass transit.

Energy efficiency through building shape and orientation, passive solar design, use of natural lighting and energy efficient insulation, heating and cooling systems.

Materials efficiency calls for using construction materials with reused or recycled contents, zero or low emissions and toxicity and sustainably harvested materials.

Water efficiency through low flow fixtures, water recycling and reclamation and irrigation management for landscaping.
